Metal constructions are construction works whose bearing structure is made entirely of steel. The main advantages compared to other building materials are: high strength / specific weight ratio therefore the metal structures are lighter than those in load-bearing masonry and reinforced concrete. This determines a lower incidence of the structural own weight on the working loads and therefore smaller foundations.

The lightness of the steel elements and their high resistance also make it possible to create structures with greater spans. Finally, there is a better correspondence to the calculation model of the structures, since steel presents itself as an isotropic and homogeneous material and has a linear elastic behavior up to yielding.
